UX Case study for Logistics App
Let's consider the scenario- you have forgotten to bring your specs at home. Wouldn’t it be great if there’s a reliable courier service that could help grab the specs for you from your home and bring it your workplace?
We are so dependent on too many things like our specs, keys, mobile, chargers, watch, band, headphones, Accessories, books, different devices, etc. there are too many things we keep depending on. Many times we keep forgetting our things at various places. Is there any reliable courier services which deliver things in 2–3 hours?
DESIGN FRAMEWORK
The 6D design framework encompasses the entire design process, beginning from understanding the business and user goals to identifying the problem, to designing different solutions and developing and delivering solutions.
RESEARCH
At first, I started searching the internet to find is there is any app out there to solve this problem, and I left with none.
I decided to choose a solution which is simple, easy to implement and has a low implementation cost. After having an interactive workshop with stakeholders, we prioritized our main goal to be increasing operation efficiency through:
Designing an app for the mobile workforce with the intention of solving problems. It will be a simple yet meaningful user experience for ordering a courier delivery on mobile devices.
PROJECT SCOPE
- Digital Transformation Strategy.
- Carry out a market demand and trend analysis.
- UX Research & Testing.
- Android App Design.
Two Native Apps
I planned to create two mobile apps, one for couriers and one for senders. In between, I have added key interactions with the aim to delight users beyond the basic requirements of managing deliveries.
STRATEGIC APPROACH
This problem statement approached me with a wealth of ideas and questions, all inspired by some vision to disrupt the courier market. I explored the concept and drew up a plan to release an initial version of the product quickly. I structured ideas and decided what would be implemented based on value and costs.
Speed and sustainability are difficult to reconcile, so a thoughtful product development strategy makes a big difference.
BUSINESS ANALYSIS
At our market demand and trend analysis, we will be looking at Google trend, Keyword Evaluation, content competition for validation.
Google trend for logistics
Looking at the logistic search on Google trend, we can see that the trend exists in the market. looking at the interest over time, we can see there some growth, although there are also lots of fluctuations seen in on the graph.
Keyword Evaluation
keywords evaluation helps to determine how many search per month are being made for that term, e.g. (our term is logistic) and how much competition there is competing for it and relative search term.
Google: Content Competition
Let’s take a dive into search term Logistics in google, in order to see what content is taking the top spots. This will help us understand better who our competitors are
From the competitive analysis we notice that all our competitors do not have a mobile app, only one offers an online booking option, nobody gives proper time estimation of delivery, through this, we will know how to position our product in the market. By enhancing our user experience, providing them with the service that other competitors are not providing.
BUSINESS GOALS
- Improve UX design, making use of more widely-known UX patterns to produce smoother user flow between core functions of the application in the order they’re most often utilized.
- Implement additional features to provide the user with useful information to assist in planning their movements and keeping the user informed during them.
- Making sure that our product effectively completes the tasks assigned in consumption of lesser time.
- Safe & secure delivery of products.
- Provide cost-efficient methods.
- Provide a variety of services.
USER RESEARCH
We interviewed stakeholders from each department to fully understand their day-to-day operations, requirements, goals, and pain points within their current system. We mapped out the current user journey for each role as a guide for the design. Additionally, user interviews and testings were held throughout the design process, with real users, to ensure that our design met their needs.
USER PERSONA
Persona tells the user’s goals, expectations, pain points, and priorities when they interact with the product.
Based on user research, I noticed that the goals and pain points of both sender and receiver are similar. but the interaction of sender and receiver with the product will be different at different situations.
So, I created a single User persona to represent both sender and receiver.
STORYBOARDING
Storyboard comprises of the problem that user might be facing, the solution that is catering to the user’s problem and the benefits that the user gets by doing so. It helps to gather and share information about users, tasks, and goals. Storyboard put a human face on analytic data.
CUSTOMER JOURNEY MAP
As I said earlier, key Interactions of sender and receiver will be different while using product. So, I created two Customer Journey Maps differently for sender and receiver.
TASK FLOW
Similar to the Customer Journey Map, I have created two different task flows from both sender and receiver.
